A purpose-driven festival

Singing Sands 2027

Singing Sands Festival's larger purpose extends to bring together cultural preservation, inclusion, education and rural development.

The following pillars reflect the values and principles that shape the festival and its long-term vision for heritage conservation.

Authenticity & Living Traditions
Authenticity & Living Traditions

Pure and authentic experiences form the cornerstone of this festival. The artistes and artisans represent communities that have practised their music, dance and craft for centuries, passing them from one generation to the next. As many of these traditions are practised by fewer hands with each passing year, Singing Sands gives them a stage, an audience, and a reason for the next generation to keep learning them. In doing so, the festival hopes to do more than showcase heritage. It hopes to help keep it alive.

Diversity and Inclusion

Women artistes and artisans find a special place in the festival and can be seen in disproportionately large numbers. Interestingly, the festival was inaugurated with ceremonial lighting of lamp by a woman folk artiste and kicked off with a concert by a woman artiste.

Showcase of Multiple Facets of Cultural Heritage
Showcase of Multiple Facets of Cultural Heritage

Singing Sands is designed as a holistic cultural platform. While rooted in authentic music, it weaves together multiple strands of cultural fabric. From arts and crafts to traditional cuisine, built heritage, history, and equestrian traditions, the festival offers something for everyone. This multidimensional approach ensures the festival not only entertains but also educates, preserves, and celebrates the richness of our collective heritage.

Global Spotlight on Shekhawati Heritage
Global Spotlight on Shekhawati Heritage

This heritage festival has put a global spotlight on the rich heritage of the Shekhawati region. The first edition itself drew guests from seven different countries. In the coming years, it will play a significant role in conservation and promotion of built and intangible heritage of this region.

Model for Rural Tourism
Model for Rural Tourism

The setting and design of the festival makes it a strong precursor and a model for development of Rural Tourism. Such festivals hold the potential of transforming rural economies, creating local employment opportunities and conserving local cultural assets.

Children-Centric
Children-Centric

Singing Sands is an important platform for introducing our rich culture to children, who rarely get an opportunity for such an experience in today’s world. To encourage this, the organisers have decided to invite children as festival guests and make sure they attend the festival for free. Several attractions are included in the festival especially for children.

Immersive
Immersive

All experiences at Singing Sands are immersive and intimate, letting the guests truly be a part of the festival. They don’t see things ‘from a distance’ or get lost in a crowd. The festival’s consciously limited scale and barrier-free design let them engage deeply, interact with the artistes, listen to their stories and often do all this at their own pace.

Local Capacity Building
Local Capacity Building

Festival organisers prioritise local sourcing from within the host village and its surrounding areas. This goes a long way in boosting the local economy and capacity building.

A Wider Purpose

Singing Sands aligns its cultural, social, and economic impact with the following Sustainable Development Goals:

A Continuing Commitment to Heritage

Singing Sands is a platform where heritage is celebrated, communities are supported, and living traditions are given a future where Shekhawati’s heritage continues to be practised, shared and valued across generations.
